BAHRAIN. THREE FOREIGN NATIONALS EXECUTED BY FIRING SQUAD
December 11, 2006: three foreign nationals convicted of murder were executed by firing squad at Jaw prison, Bahrain.
It was reported that Pakistani Mohammed Hanif Atta Mohammed, aged 37, was allowed to meet his three-year-old son for the first time just one day before he went in front of a firing squad. The toddler is being cared for in prison by his mother, Suraya Ghuloom Hussain, 42, who is serving a life sentence for her part in the murder. Both Mohammed and Suraya were lovers who were convicted of murdering her 72-year-old Bahraini husband in August 2003.
Two Bangladeshis were also executed for the murder of Bahraini mother-of-two Latifa Abdulla Abdulaziz in November 2004.
Housemaid Jasmine Anwar Hussain, 23 and her accomplice, Mohammed Hilaluddin, 33, reportedly smashed Ms Abdulaziz's head with a pickaxe at her home in Buhair, in the mistaken belief that there was gold in her safe. (Sources: Gulf Daily News, 12/12/2006)
