EU DENOUNCED DEATH SENTENCES AGAINST BULGARIAN MEDICS
December 19, 2006: the President of the EU Commission José Manuel Barroso sharply condemned the death sentences against the Bulgarian nurses and the Palestine doctor confirmed today in Libya.
A spokesman for Barroso announced that the President of the EU Commission and the whole community was shocked with the sentences.
âThis ruling of the court is unacceptable. The European Commission hopes that the issue will be solved at the highest instanceâ, the spokesman underlined.
The EU Commissioner responsible for Justice, Freedom and Security Franco Frattini put under question the future co-operation between Brussels and Libya.
âThe co-operation between Brussels and Tripoli cannot exist on a basis that ignores human rightsâ, Frattini said defining the ruling of the Libyan court as a wrong step on behalf of the Libyan judicial system. (Sources: FOCUS News Agency, 19/12/2006)
