NIGERIAN SUPREME COURT ACQUITS MAN OF DEATH SENTENCE AFTER 15 YEARS
January 26, 2007: 15 years after he was sentenced to death for murder, a police corporal, Mr. Sunday Udosen has been set free by the Supreme Court. The leading judgment, read by Justice George Oguntade, cited the lack of direct evidence and conflicting stories of witnesses as the basis of the decision acquittal. Udosen was convicted for the November 21, 1987, killing of Eunice Ikezuagu with a gun on the Enugu-Okigwe road, for allegedly failing to respond to Udosenâs sexual overtures.
