INDIA. ’93 BLASTS: 3 MORE GET DEATH PENALTY
July 25, 2007: in the 1993 Mumbai bombings case in India, the special TADA court sentenced three more men to death, and another to life imprisonment due to his age. Abdul Akhtar, Zakir Hussein, and Feroz Malik were involved in the hand grenade attack on the Mahim fishermen colony on March 12, 1993 which killed three persons and injured six. Special judge P. D. Kode found them guilty under various sections of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, unlawful assembly provision under the Indian Penal Code and the Explosive Substances Act. They were sentenced to capital punishment on two counts and different imprisonments in other sections. The were also fined just over Rs. 1 lakh each. (Sources: The Hindu, 25/07/2007)
