The recipient of the 'Abolitionist of the Year', presented by the President of the Council Romano Prodi, Kagame added that âwe are happy to join a family of nations and people who refute the death penalty. And we are also happy to work for the attainment of the moratorium on capital punishment together with other African nations, and join the European Union in supporting this important initiative.â
Kagame emphasised âI really appreciate that it has been Italy that led this struggle, and I want to especially thank Hands Off Cain for the prize they have awarded me. Above all, I want to thank Hands Off Cain for the excellent work that the association is doing to put an end to capital punishment in the world.â
