HANDS OFF CAIN SUPPORTS CAPITAL X IN HIS WALK AGAINST THE DEATH PENALTY
April 1, 2008: American rapper Capital X’s campaign against the death penalty, sponsored by the not for profit associations SenzaVoce and Hands Off Cain, began yesterday.
Capital X, a rapper, activist, and ex prisoner who is now committed to the fight against the death penalty, started a campaign in the US called Walk 4 Life, which will last for around 54 days.
He will walk approximately 1700 miles, starting from Trenton, New Jersey (which recently abolished the death penalty), and ending in Texas (the state with most executions in the USA). His campaign is for the abolition of the death penalty and to raise awareness of inmates on death row.
Capital X’s walk covers various states, some of which belong to the famous ‘death belt’, the states with the highest rates of execution.
The campaign provides a further opportunity. People who wish to can dedicate a day of walking to a friend on death row or in jail.
The scope of the campaign, sponsored by Hands Off Cain, is to attract attention to the death penalty and educate people regarding the necessity of its abolition. It is also to raise funds that will be given to associations of families of victims of violence as well as to abolitionist associations that intend to develop projects and initiatives against the death penalty. Another objective of the campaign is to create a network of solidarity between families of colour that have lost loved ones due to violence, and people that have a family member or friend on death row.
