INDIA. SC STAYS DEATH PENALTY OF MUMBAI BLAST CONVICT
April 4, 2008: India’s Supreme Court stayed the death sentence of Zakir Hussain Noor Mohammed Shaikh, a death row convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blast case.
A bench of Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan suspended Shaikh's death penalty while admitting his plea challenging the verdict of Mumbai's anti terror court, which convicted him on charges of terrorism.
Sheikh had detonated a bomb in the Mahim fishermen's colony in Mumbai, killing three people and injuring six others. (Sources: Sify.com, 04/04/2008)
