PAKISTAN. TRIBAL ELDERS URGED TO HELP STOP EXECUTIONS IN MOHMAND AGENCY
April 30, 2008: fearing yet another public execution of an alleged outlaw, tribesmen in Machinai locality of the Mohmand Agency in Pakistan sought intervention of elders from all the seven tribal agencies to end further bloodshed amid reports of two more tribesmen's abduction by militants from Rahim Kor in the agency. Militants in the tribal agency publicly executed an alleged kidnapper, Noor Hashim, on April 27.
Local tribesmen, fearing similar treatment with a man named Ghaffaray, believed to be a member of the group, reportedly approached tribal elders from rest of the federally administered tribal areas (Fata) seeking their intervention in halting the execution and striking a truce in the area.
