CAMEROON. PRESIDENT BIYA ISSUES PARDON
May 22, 2008: after successfully celebrating the 36th National Day, Cameroon President Paul Biya signed two pardon decrees. The second decree commuted the death sentences to life imprisonment for people sentenced to death, and commutation to 20 years imprisonment for people whose death sentence had already been commuted to life imprisonment.
However, the decrees didn't apply to those sentenced for crimes like misappropriation of public funds, aggravated theft, capital murder, counterfeiting and corruption. (Sources: All Africa, 22/05/2008)
