LIBERAL INTERNATIONAL. RESOLUTION FOR WORLDWIDE PROHIBITION OF PERSECUTION AGAINST HOMOSEXUALS
May 27, 2008: thanks to a proposal by the Radicals, the Liberal International approved the resolution for the prohibition of persecution and discrimination based on sexual orientation. The resolution was approved during the 55th Liberal International congress held in Belfast, Ireland. The text was written by Ottavio Marzocchi, who is responsible for the European affairs of the Radical Association Certi Diritti, and was tabled by the Dutch D66 party.
The resolution invites the liberal parties of the world to work at all levels to ensure the abolition of the death penalty, the decriminalisation of relationships between people of the same sex, protection by the State against violence and discrimination, equality for LGBT people against anti discrimination laws, education and media campaigns, the concession of political asylum for homosexuals who face persecution, international initiatives against those states that persecute or discriminate LGBT people, as well as the celebration of World Day Against Homophobia.
