BANGLADESH: MAN TO GO TO GALLOWS FOR KILLING WIFE IN KUSHTIA
February 2, 2009: a tribunal in Kushtia, Bangladesh, sentenced a man to death for killing his pregnant wife.
Judge M Akbar Hossain Mridha of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Court, after examining the records and witnesses, delivered the judgment in absentia of the convict. According to the prosecution, Mofiz beat his wife Fuljan Nesa,17, to death at a village Shibrampur in Kumarkhali upazila on September 25, 2003, due to dowry demands.
