BANGLADESH: THREE GET DEATH PENALTY FOR WOMEN TRAFFICKING
February 24, 2009: three people were sentenced to death in Bangladesh in 77 women trafficking cases from June 2008 to January 2009.
A total of 130 people were sentenced to various jail terms. The courts awarded life-term imprisonment to 90 people and other terms to 30 people, said a study paper at a daylong workshop on counter trafficking measures.
Seven accused in the 77 cases either died or were released during the trial, said officials, who have prepared the paper. (Sources: New Nation, 25/02/2009)
