IRAN: FIVE HANGED FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING
September 28, 2009: Five people were hanged in the prison of Taybad, north-east of Iran reported the official news site of the Iranian police.
Those executed were convicted of drug trafficking and none of them were identified by name.
The executions took place at about 9 pm, according to the report.
Taibad is located at the border with Afghanistan, the world's leading opium and heroin producer. The drugs are trafficked mainly through neighbouring Iran. (Sources: Afp, Iran Human Rights, 29/09/2009)
