TANZANIA: 75 DEATH SENTENCES COMMUTED: KIKWETE

November 19, 2009: Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete said at a conference in Rome he had commuted 75 death sentences to life imprisonment “just few days ago.”
He explained that many Tanzanians support the death penalty. However, “the death penalty was only being used as a toothless dog.
