JORDAN: CASSATION COURT OVERTURNS DEATH SENTENCE
February 7, 2010: the Court of Cassation in Jordan overturned the death sentence of a women convicted of killing her mother-in-law and daughter, a mental evaluation wasnât done. S.H. was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court in 2009 for killing Subhieh Ibrahim and Hala Shadi, 4, on December 21, 2007 in Ruseifa.
The Cassation Court returned the case to the Criminal Court, ruling that it "violated the law when it failed twice to accept the defence's request to refer his client to the National Institute of Psychiatric Medicine (NIPM) for evaluation", the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said.
