THAILAND: MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR POSSESSING HEROIN
February 10, 2010: ten years after his arrest, Pharuehas Krirkkreosakul was sentenced to death by the Thai Supreme Court for possessing 13 kg of heroin with intent to sell. The Mae Hong Son native, 33, was sentenced to death by both the Criminal Court and Court of Appeals. He was arrested in Chiang Mai province on March 12, 1999.
The Supreme Court said it had no reason to be lenient and commute the death sentence handed down on Pharuehas Krirkkreosakul by two lower courts, citing the "devastation" the 13.6-kg of heroin would have caused to the public had the drug been sold. (Sources: BBC, 11/02/2010)
