UKRAINE: PARLIAMENT REFUSES TO RESTORE DEATH PENALTY
February 16, 2010: Ukraineās parliament refused to make changes to the present legislation that would bring back the death penalty, the proposal supported by a tiny 32 of the 413 registered deputies. The Communists had suggested re-introducing the death penalty for grave crimes.
Some legislators also wanted to make rape, robbery, fraud, organization of crime rings, bribes and some other crimes punishable with the life imprisonment. (Sources: ITAR-TASS, 16/02/2010)
