ITALY: CHAMBERS ASK FOR HALT TO TAREQ AZIZ EXECUTION
October 28, 2010: the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate unanimously voted for a bipartisan motion that commits the Government to act with urgency regarding the Iraqi authorities to avoid the execution of Tareq Aziz and his coaccused.
The motion further commits the Government to promoting a formal request in Europe to the Iraqi authorities to reintroduce the moratorium on the death penalty established in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein, in order to strengthen Iraq's democratic transition. (Sources: Ansa, 28/10/2010)
