IRAN: THREE PEOPLE HANGED
January 25, 2011: three people have been hanged recently in Iran, in three different cities.
On January 24 Iran hanged a murderer-rapist in public in Karaj city, the official IRNA news agency reported.
The convicted 25-year-old man, identified as Omid Bargh, had raped and killed ten women in Karaj and in one of the northern cities of the country in 2008, the report said.
In the preliminary investigations, the murderer said his motivation of doing the crimes was "hatred towards and revenge from women", IRNA said.
He was hanged early in the morning in the Qods square of Karaj city, some 45 kilometers to the west of Tehran, according to the report.
On January 23 one man was hanged in the prison of Yasouj, southwest of Iran, reported the Iranian state media. The man was identified as Masoud A., 29 years old, and was convicted of rape.
The third prisoner was hanged on January 20 in the prison of Bojnourd, northeast of Iran, reported the state run Iranian news agency ISNA. According to the report the prisoner, who was identified as M. Gh., was convicted of drug trafficking. (Sources: Xinhua, Iran Human Rights, 24/01/2011)
