SOMALIA: AL SHABAAB EXECUTES TWO MEN
March 6, 2011: Somalia’s al Shabaab group executed Abdullahi Hajji Mohammed and Abdinasir Hussein Ali at Maslah camp in northeastern Mogadishu.
The accused were executed by a firing squad. Hundreds of locals, mostly displaced people, were invited to view the execution.
The two were sentenced to death by the Islamic court of Benadir region. One was accused of spying for the government while the other was charged with assassinating al Shabaab members.
Abdinasir Hussein Ali, one of the deceased, had reportedly defected from al Shabaab in early 2009 and joined Somali military forces. After killing a police officer, he rejoined al Shabaab. (Sources: Allheadlinenews.com, 07/03/2011)
