SAUDI ARABIA: 'SUICIDAL' FILIPINO SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING THREE
January 15, 2012: A Saudi court sentenced a Filipino man to death after he stole a bus and drove it recklessly through the busy streets in an attempt to commit suicide. Instead of dying, he escaped unhurt after killing three family members.
Instead of welcoming it, the defendant objected to the verdict and said he would appeal on the grounds he did not intend to kill those three.
The court in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah was told that the Filipino stole a company bus as his driver stepped out to pray at a nearby mosque. He then drove at a high speed, jumping the red lights many times and going in the wrong direction before ramming into a car carrying a family of one man and two women, killing them instantly.
The defendant told the judge that he had done so because he wanted to commit a suicide following a dispute with his boss, his failure to obtain a driving licence and a threat by his fiance to desert him.
"When the judge issued the death sentence, he immediately objected and said he would appeal the verdict,â Sharq newspaper said. (Source: emirates247.com, 15/01/2012)
