SRI LANKA: TRISHAW DRIVER SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR TRAFFICKING HEROIN
January 30, 2012: In Sri Lanka, Colombo High Court sentenced a trishaw driver to death for trafficking and retaining heroin.
The accused Pallegama Ralalage SunilĀ Karunaratna Bandara of Gunasinghepura was sentenced to death by High Court JudgeĀ Padman Surasena for possessing and trafficking 6.58 grams of heroine on September 23, 2007.
The accused was arrested near theĀ Rupavahini Corporation army barrierĀ at Bullers Road.
The army had stopped the trishaw that the accused drew and had searched the trishaw and the accused for any suspicious things.
Then they had recoveredĀ a parcel ofĀ heroin from the trouser pocket of the accused. At the time of the search there had been aĀ passenger in the vehicle who was releasedĀ later. The army had handed over theĀ accused to Cinnamon Gardensā Police. (Sources: dailymirror.lk, 31/02/2012)
