IRAN: FIVE PRISONERS HANGED FOR RAPE, DRUG TRAFFICKING
March 13, 2012: Five prisoners were hanged in Iran, in two different cities.
The first two men were hanged in public in the city of Mashhad.
According to an official Iranian news agency, the men were charged and convicted of involvement in 13 rape cases. They were arrested less than three months ago. The public hangings took place in Mashhadâs Ferdowsi Square at 6:30 AM local time.
The prisoners were identified as Akram Norouz Zahi, known as "Yasein", and Mojtaba Afshar, known as âSaddam". One of the prisoners was an Afghan citizen, according to the state-run news agency Fars.
Three other prisoners were hanged in the prison of Qazvin (Ghazvin), west of Tehran.
According to the official website of the judiciary in Qazvin, the prisoners were identified as: 1- Reza P. (39 year old) for carrying 3 kilograms of heroin and 7,8 grams of "shisheh" (synthetic narcotic sunbstance), 2- Mansor A (45 year old) son of Hossein, for keeping and carrying 734 kilograms and 400 grams of opium, keeping arms and large quantities of other narcotic drugs, 3- Latifollah B. (50 year old) son of Shahbaz, for keeping 354 grams of heroin, buying 1260 grams of heoin and selling 50 grams of heroin
The prisoners had been sentenced to death by the second section of the Revolutionary Court in Qazvin. (Sources: Iran Human Rights, 14/03/2012)
