BANGLADESH: TWO TO WALK GALLOWS FOR MURDER
April 17, 2012: In Bangladesh, a Speedy Trial Tribunal of Rajshahi division sentenced two people to death, 6 to life term and one to 10 years imprisonment for killing a housewife during a robbery in Sirajganj.
The tribunal awarded death penalty to Shamiul Islam, 22, son of Abdus Salam of Ramkantapur village in Ullapara upazila and Abdul Majid, 23, son of Siddiq Ali of Rayerchar village in Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka.
According to the prosecution, the convicts looted cash and valuables from Dr Sukumar Roy's house in Ullapara upazila on March 2 in 2010. At one stage they stabbed Sukumar's wife Supriya Sukla Bhadra indiscriminately, leaving her dead on the spot. Later, they managed to flee the scene with the looted valuables.
A case was filed in this connection with the Speedy Trial Tribunal of Rajshahi. After investigation police submitted charge sheet against them.
After examining the witnesses and records tribunal Judge Ekramul Haque Chowdhury handed down the verdict. (Sources: newstoday.com.bd, 19/04/2012)
