UAE: BANI YAS COP-SHOOTING GUNMEN GET DEATH SENTENCE
June 19, 2012: An Abu Dhabi court sentenced to death two drug dealers who shot and wounded undercover police officers during an arrest operation in Bani Yas, local media reported.
MK, an Emirati who shot at the officers, was also sentenced to life for attempted murder and ordered to pay Dh10,000 to one officer and Dh40,000 to the other in compensation. FS, a Yemeni, received 10 years for resisting arrest and attacking the policemen and was fined Dh20,000.
MK was also issued a four-year sentence for consuming hashish and six months for possessing weapons.
However, the death sentence cancels out the other sentences, said Chief Justice Sayed Absul Baseer, head of the court.
The President, Sheikh Khalifa, will decide upon the method of execution.
The death sentence and life sentence must be appealed by law. (Sources: thenatinal.ae, 19/06/2012)
