LEBANON: SIDON MURDERER GETS DEATH SENTENCE
July 12, 2012: A man was sentenced to death by the South Lebanon Criminal Court over the murder of a Sidon money changer in February.
Judge Rola Jadayel, the first head of the South Lebanon Criminal Court sentenced 22-year-old Nasser Fares to death during a trial session at Sidonâs Justice Palace amid a heavy police and Army presence.
Hours after Mohammad Natout was stabbed to death in his shop on Sidonâs eastern highway, Fares, a Syrian national, was arrested by the police and confessed.
The defendant was sentenced to death under Articles 549, 638 and 640 of the Criminal Code.
Faresâ case will now be transferred to the Beirut Court of Cassation. (Sources: Lebanon News, 13/07/2012)
