IRAN: AFGHAN NATIONAL HANGED IN EVIN PRISON
September 27, 2012: According to reports, an Afghan national was hanged in Evin Prison, Teheran, this morning. He was transferred to Evin Prison from Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj a few days ago.
He was identified as 33 year old Neimat Qoreishi and was married.
Qoreishi was head of prayers in prison and knew the Quran by heart. Security forces removed him two days ago from Hall 4 [Afghan section] Unit 2 in Qezel Hesar Prison under the excuse that he was to take part in a Quran reading competition but he was transferred to Evin Prisonâs Section 240 to await his execution.
This prisonerâs family is waiting outside prison to receive his body but judiciary officials have said that they will only hand over his body if he is buried in Iran and not in Afghanistan.
Another prisoner identified only by his first name as Rasoul was transferred to a solitary cell from Hall 3 Unit 2 in Qezel Hesar Prison for execution but his fate is still unknown. (Sources: Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran, 27/09/2012)
