TEXAS (USA): JOHN MANUEL QUINTANILLA EXECUTED
July 16, 2013: John Manuel Quintanilla, Hispanic, 36, was executed in Texas.
He had been sentenced for fatally shooting a retired sheriff's deputy, Victor Billings, 60, during a robbery on November 24, 2002.
Quintanilla's accomplice, Jeffrey Bibb, 33, is serving 60 years for murder and 50 years for aggravated robbery. Quintanilla becomes the 9th inmate to be put to death this year in Texas and the 501st overall since the state resumed capital punishment on Dec. 7, 1982.
Quintanilla becomes the 19th inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1339th overall since the nation resumed executions on Janaury 17, 1977. (Sources: Associated Press & Rick Halperin, 16/07/2013)
