UAE: NEPALI GETS DEATH FOR MURDER
July 24, 2013: A lower court in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates has sentenced a Nepali migrant worker to death for his involvement in the murder of a Pakistani national.
In October 25, 2012, a case was filed against Anish Khaling Rai, charging him with murdering the Pakistani national when a fight broke out between the two at a restaurant in the UAE.
Nepali ambassador to the UAE Dhananjaya Jha said they came to know about the death penalty after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu sent a letter to the embassy in the UAE, asking it to inquire about the matter.
A letter sent by Raiās wife, appealing to save Raiās life, also reached the embassy.
Jha said the embassy will send a public relations officer to inquire about the matter on Wednesday (July 24). He said the details of the matter will come to light only after that.
Jha said the victim can appeal to the appellate court and the Supreme Court of the UAE. (Sources: ekantipur.com, 24/07/2013)
