FLORIDA (USA): DARIUS KIMBROUGH EXECUTED
November 12, 2013: Darius Kimbrough, 40, Black, was executed in Florida. He was convicted in of first-degree murder, sexual battery and burglary. A judge sentenced him to death in December 1994 after a jury recommended, 11-1, that he die for killing Denise Collins, 28, in October 1991.
The crime went unsolved until Kimbrough was arrested for raping a 22-year-old woman in March 1992. DNA from that attack connected him to the Collins assault.
Kimbrough becomes the 7th inmate to be put to death in Florida this year, the 81st overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1979, the 33rd inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1353rd overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
