IRAN: DRUG SMUGGLER HANGED IN QAZVIN
December 15, 2013: one man charged of drug smuggling was hanged in the Iranian Qazvin city prison in the morning, Fars news agency reported.
Iranian court has sentenced him to death by hanging due to distributing crack narcotic drug.
Iran's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani had approved the regional court's sentence, according to the report.
The hanged man who was 46 was carrying 500 grams of compressed heroin when arrested, Esmaeil Sadeghi, prosecutor of Qazvin Province said.
He had 13 criminal cases on drug related charges, Sadeghi added.
Murder, rape, armed robbery and the trafficking of drugs in quantities in excess of five kilograms are among crimes punishable by death in Iran. (Sources: en.haberler.com, 15/12/2013)
