NIGERIA: JUDGE SENTENCES BOY TO DEATH BY HANGING IN KANO
January 7, 2014: In Nigeria, Kano High Court 4 at Audu Bako secretariat presided over by Justice Nura Sagir has sentenced one Anwar Surah to death by hanging.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Nura said he was convinced beyond reasonable doubt with six witnesses and the knife tendered as evidence in which Anwar used to stabbed to death one Muhammad Abubakar in 2010.
Justice Nura said he delivered the judgement under 221 of the penal code and the defendant can appeal the judgement.
Counsel to the plaintiff, Barrister Bashir Hassan told Journalists that Anwar stabbed Abubakar on his chest and head which resulted to his death in November 2010.
The counsel to Anwar, Barrister Zaharaddeen M Bello asked the court to temper justice with mercy as his client has never committed any crime in the past and is a first time offender.
