SOMALIA: MILITARY COURT EXECUTES THREE SOLDIERS
March 11, 2014: the Military High Court of Somalia executed three soldiers who were charged and convicted of killing soldiers and a journalist in Mogadishu in 2013.
They were identified as Mohamed Omar Adow, from Mana-Boolyo village in Shibis district of Mogadishu, who was found guilty of killing journalist Mustaf Hussein Qanyare between Haawo Abdi and Afgooye in the Lower Shabelle Region in September 2013; Yahya Sheikh Abdullahi and Hussein Ali Ahmed, who were security guards for the Members of the Somali Parliament, both convicted of killing another officer in the Wadajir district.
The soldiers, who were blindfolded and handcuffed, were executed by firing squad early in the morning at Somali Police Academy grounds in Mogadishu's Hamarjajab neighborhood. Senior military, police officers and officials from Banadir Region were present at the scene where the soldiers were executed. Hundreds of people came to witness the execution.
