KENYA: EX-POLICEMAN IN NAROK ROBBERY CASE SENTENCED TO DEATH
March 10, 2014: In Kenya, a Narok court sentenced a former police officer to death after he was found guilty of robbery with violence.
Lawrence Gathuka, who was attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit headquarters in Gilgil, was also found with an armed pistol that had been reported missing.
âThe evidence is strong enough to convict you since all witnesses were clear that it was you who had the pistol.
âThe police spared your life and to deter such incidents in future, I have no option but to sentence you to death,â Senior Resident Magistrate Allan Sitati said.
The firearm was later discovered to have been stolen from Mr Stephen Ole Koriata, a businessman in Narok. (Sources: mobile.nation.co.ke, 10/03/2014)
