NIGERIA: COURT SENTENCES THREE MEN TO DEATH FOR KIDNAPPING, KILLING INFANT
March 20, 2014: An Akure High Court sentenced three men to death by hanging over the alleged kidnapping and murder of an 18-month-old infant identified as Rachael Akingboye.
Those sentenced to death are Olusegun Obaro, Jonah Lase and Theophilus Friday.
The presiding judge, Olusegun Odusola, in his judgment, said the first and second accused persons were guilty of kidnapping and murder, while the third accused person was only guilty of murder.
The suspects were brought under a two-count charge of kidnapping and murder âcontrary to and punishable under Section 3 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Abduction Law 2010 and murder contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo Stateâ.
The accused were said to have kidnapped the deceased in the night from her parentâs residence at Ikorigho in Igbokoda on June 17, 2011. (Sources: Premium Times, 20/03/2014)
