EGYPT: POLICE CAPTAIN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MURDER-ROBBERY
June 2, 2014: Qena's Criminal Court has sentenced a police captain to death for the murder of two people in 2012, Al-Ahram's Arabic website reported.
Captain Mahmoud Fathy Aly El-Attar was given a death sentence for the murder of a driver and a sales representative. He was also convicted of stealing LE130,000 from the victims.
El-Attar had two assistants in the crime â Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim Abdel-Ghafar, who was given 15 years in a maximum security prison, and Folaly Ezz El-Arab Othman, who is currently on the run but was tried in absentia and given a life sentence in a maximum security prison.
The defendants killed the two victims and left their bodies at the entrance to Qena's Abo-Hazam village. The murder weapon was found in Captain El-Attar's house.
Police investigations show that El-Attar conspired with the two other men, along with the murdered driver, Abdallah Salem, to set up a checkpoint and steal the money from the sales representative.
El-Attar then murdered the driver so as to divide the money with two other partners instead of three. (Sources: Ahram Online, 02/06/2014)
