SRI LANKA: HRC RECOMMENDS GOVERNMENT TO COMMUTE DEATH SENTENCES
July 10, 2014: The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission has recommended the government to commute the death sentence of the present convicts to life imprisonment.
The recommendation has been made after a research done by the Commission using the prisoners condemned to death and currently detained in all the prisons throughout the country.
Human Rights Commissioner Prathibha Mahanamaheva said the recommendation report will be handed over to President Mahinda Rajapaksa today. (Sources: hirunews, 10/07/2014)
