VIETNAM: THREE PRISONERS EXECUTED
July 22, 2014: three prisoners were executed by lethal injection in different cases of murder, state media reported. Nguyen Duc Nghia, a 30-year-old man known as the Hai Phong man, was executed for the murder and robbery of his ex-girlfriend, Nguyen Phuong Linh. A Hanoi court sentenced him to death in July 2010. The court found Nghia guilty of killing Linh on 4 May 2010 in Hanoi, then cutting off her head and fingers and dumping them in a river around 90 kilometres away in Quang Ninh Province. Nghia filed an appeal in November 2010, but the Supreme Court upheld his capital sentence. He sent a letter to President Truong Tan Sang asking for a pardon, but his request was rejected. Hanoi Moi newspaper said two other convicts were also executed on the same day between 5-7:30pm. Vi Van Nhuong, 25, was executed for the murder and robbery of a noodle shop owner in Hai Ba Trung (Hanoi) in 2010, while Vu Tuan Linh, 33, was executed for committing homicide in the Tay Ho district (Hanoi).
