BANGLADESH: THREE KIDNAPPERS TO WALK GALLOWS IN COX'S BAZAR
June 7, 2015: A court in Bangladesh sentenced three people to death for killing a schoolboy after abduction in 2013.
The death penalty awardees are Myanmar nationals Abdul Khaleque, son of Mohammad Shafi, and Abdus Shukkur, son of Golam Bari, who used to stay illegally in the town for long, and Bahadur Mian, son of Siraj Mian of Chandanaish upazila in Chittagong district.
District and Session's Judge Sadiqual Islam Talukder also acquitted another accused named Jasim Uddin as charges brought against him could not be proved.
According to the prosecution, the three abducted Hridoy, a student of nursery class, and son of Nurul Haque of Uttar Nunirchara area in the town, while he was returning home from school on July 4, 2013.
The kidnappers then phoned Hridoy's elder brother Md Yousuf, demanding Tk 3 lakh for his release.
On the following day, police recovered Hridoy's body from Kalatali Road area. Later, Victim's father filed a murder a case with Cox's Bazar Model Police Station.
The law enforcers then arrested four people in connection with the murder.
Police pressed charges against the four in 2014. After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found the three guilty and pronounced the verdict. (Sources: thedailystar.net, 08/06/2015)
