TAJIKISTAN MAY RESTORE DEATH PENALTY
August 8, 2016: The death penalty is necessary in respect of persons who have committed serious crimes and terrorism, the Tajik Prosecutor General Yusuf Rahmon.
According to him, "the death penalty could be applied to persons who have committed brutal murders, murders of few people - terrorists, traitors, coup plotters".
The prosecutor said that 170 people are convicted of involvement in the attempted military coup in the country in September 2015, carried out by the Deputy Defense Minister of Tajikistan, Abdulhalim Nazarzoda, TASS reports.
In June 2004, the parliament of Tajikistan approved the law "On the suspension of the death penalty in the Republic of Tajikistan" and "On Amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tatarstan".
