BANGLADESH: 11 GET DEATH SENTENCE FOR KILLING JUBO DAL ACTIVIST IN LAXIPUR
August 30, 2016: A Laxipur court ordered death penalty to 11 for murdering Maolana Babor, who was an activist of Laxipur Jubo Dal.
After examining all records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Saidur Rahman handed down the verdict, acquitting three accused.
According to the prosecution, Maolana Babor, a resident of Titarkandi village and a BNP activist, was shot and stabbed to death by his political rivals in a clash while he was returning home at the village around 12.30 after watching a cricket match on March 8, 2003.
Later victimâs brother Nurul Islam filed a case with Sadar police station on March 10.
Police later submitted a charge sheet accusing 14 people.
The convicted are: Alam, Miraj, Manju, Saiful Islam, Abdul Shahid, Bala Munshi, Mahiuddin, Mainuddin, Morshed Alam, Masud, and Md Abdul Basher. (Sources: Ittefaq Report, 30/08/2016)
