NEBRASKA AND CALIFORNIA VOTE IN FAVOUR OF THE DEATH PENALTY
November 9, 2016: In Nebraska, at 1 p.m. Italian time, it is definitive the count on Referendum No. 426, which proposed to invalidate the May 2015 law by which the Parliament had abolished the death penalty. In favor of the repeal of the law, and therefore of the reintroduction of the death penalty, they voted over 57% of voters.
In California, at 1 P.M. Italian time, after the counting of 86% of precincts, Proposition 62 which proposed the abolition of the death penalty is recording 3,639,787 votes in favor (46.11%) and 4,254,006 (53.89%) votes against. Proposition 66, which proposes to amend the procedures of death sentences in order to expedite the issuance of execution warrants, and would require prisoners on death row to work and pay restitution to victims' families is recording 3,850,313 (50.87%) votes in favor, and 3,718,819 (49.13%) votes against.
