GEORGIA (USA): STEVEN FREDERICK SPEARS EXECUTED

November 16, 2016: Steven Frederick Spears, 54, White, was executed.
He was convicted in the August 25, 2001 slaying of his ex-girlfriend Sherri Holland (34) at her home, and sentenced to death in Lumpkin County in March 2007.
Spears becomes the 8th inmate to be put to death this year in Georgia, more than any other state in 2016.
The 8 executions are the most in more than 1/2 a century. In 1957, the state killed 16 men.
Spears becomes the 68th overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1983, the 18th to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1440th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977. (Source: Associated Press, WXIA news & Rick Halperin, 16/11/2016)
