FLORIDA (USA): JURY VOTE 12-0 TO RECOMMEND JUAN ROSARIO BE EXECUTED
June 2, 2017: An Orange County jury voted 12-0 late Friday to recommend 30-year-old Juan Rosario be executed. The case was overseen by Ocala-based State Attorney Brad King, who was assigned by Gov. Rick Scott. He reassigned 23 cases from local State Attorney Aramis Ayala after she announced earlier this year she would not seek the death penalty in any cases. Due to a new Florida law, Rosario's case required a unanimous decision from the 12-person jury. His case was the 1st capital case to go to trial in Orange County since that statute was passed. Rosario was convicted of breaking into the home of Elena Ortega, 83, in September 2013 to burglarize it and then fatally beat her when she woke up. He then set fire to the house. There will be a hearing before the trial judge in September before a final determination of sentence is made. (Source: Orlando Sentinel, WESH news, 02/06/2017)
