BANGLADESH: FIVE TO WALK GALLOWS FOR KILLING EXPAT
April 10, 2018: A Chittagong court sentenced five persons to death in a case filed for killing a Bangladesh-born American citizen in 2011. The court of Chittagong 5th Additional Metropolitan Session Judge Jannatul Ferdous awarded the punishment to the accused, said the court Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Miradul Amin Milad. The convicts were identified as Md Mujibur Rahman, Mohammad Monir, Jewel Barua, Bablu Barua and Sanjit Banik. Of them, only Jewel Barua is behind the bar while rest others are on the run, he said. Police submitted charge sheet accusing the five accused on October 14 in 2011 while a court framed charges against them on April 21 in 2013. (Sources: daily-sun.com, 11/04/2018)
