USA: FEDERAL APPEALS COURT REFUSES TO LIFT INJUNCTION AGAINST FEDERAL EXECUTIONS
December 4, 2019: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on 2nd December 2019 denied the Department of Justice’s motion to lift the preliminary injunction issued by a federal district court judge on 21 November barring the United States government from carrying out four executions scheduled for December 2019 and January 2020. A unanimous three-judge panel of the appeals court held that federal prosecutors “have not satisfied the stringent requirements for a stay pending appeal.” (Source: DPIC, 02/12/2019)
