BANGLADESH: THREE JMB MEN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING AN OPERATIVE OF THE SAME OUTFIT IN CHAPAINAWABGANJ
December 5, 2019: A Chapainawabganj court has sentenced three members of the banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) to death and four others to life in prison for killing an operative of the same group in 2012. Additional Districts and Sessions Judge Md Showkat Ali passed the verdict on 25 November 2019. The three convicts to be hanged are: Sanowar Hossain, Jahangir Alam and Abdus Shukur. The four convicts sentenced to life imprisonment are: Shamsul Haque, Abdul Motakabbir alias Bulbul, Saiful Islam and Shamim. The court has fined each of the seven felons Tk 100,000. Of them, only Sanowar remains a fugitive; the rest were present in court during the verdict. The then ‘self-proclaimed’ Ameer Ruhul Amin alias Salman of JMB had his throat slit in Kholshi-Boria area of Nachol Upazila due to an internal conflict on 26 April 2012, said Additional Public Prosecutor Anjuman Ara.
