IRAN: HANDS OFF CAIN, UNACCEPTABLE ANTI-ZIONIST LAW AND INTRODUCTION OF THE DEATH PENALTY TO HIT ISRAEL
May 28, 2020: The Hands off Cain - Spes contra spem association considers the law on "hostile acts of the Zionist regime against peace and security" announced by President Hassan Rouhani unacceptable. The law considers collaboration with Israel an "act against Allah" (moharebeh) and a form of "spread of corruption on earth" (mofsed-e-filarz) therefore punishable by the death penalty. "The statements by the top Iranian authorities, from President Rouhani to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who announced the new law and attacked Israel, comparing it to cancer and coronavirus, are of unheard violence. To say that Israel must be "uprooted" and "destroyed" and to call on this to support the "jihad", as the Supreme Leader Khamenei did, amounts to a declaration of war that cannot leave anyone indifferent. We are once again faced with a regime, the Iranian one, that proves to be a threat to peace and security in the region and in the world, and that, as such, it cannot be considered the element of stabilization, as the proponents of the policy of condescension persist. We ask the Italian government and the international community to intervene to condemn these declarations, to condemn this law and above all to end with the policy of docility and compliance towards this bloody regime before it is too late."
