SOMALIA: AL-SHABAAB EXECUTED A MAN WHO CLAIMED TO POSSESS SUPERNATURAL POWERS
September 24, 2020: Al-Shabaab on 31 May 2020 sentenced a man named Abukar Haji Omar, 50, to death and executed him on the outskirts of Qoryoley town, in the Lower Shebelle region. Omar was accused of claiming to possess supernatural powers over the past five years. He was executed by a firing squad. The Al-Qaeda linked jihadist group that controls large swathes of the countryside in Southern and Central Somalia, often carry out sentencing including death penalties of people charged and convicted of spying for the Federal Government of Somalia, the regional authorities and for foreign countries such as Ethiopia, United States of America and Kenya.
