NIGERIA: 40-YEAR-OLD MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH OVER ARMED ROBBERY
February 10, 2021: Akwa Ibom State High Court on 8 February 2021 sentenced a 40-year-old man, Kufre Christopher Archibong, to death by hanging for armed robbery. Justice Okon Okon, found Archibong guilty for robbing one Bassey Isaac Akpan, a 43-year-old public servant in his residence, Nung Uyo Idoro, Uyo on 26 April 2017. Justice Okon, who held that the accused be “hanged by the neck until he is dead”, prayed God to have mercy upon his soul. The condemned robber was arraigned on 19 December 2017 for conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery, punishable under Sections 6 (b) and 1 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
